Hollywood Original Shirley Temple Soda Pop

Ginger ale, grenadine, and a maraschino cherry.  Those are the three ingredients needed to make the drink known as the Shirley Temple.  It’s a simple concoction, but a tasty one nonetheless.  If you don’t feel up to making your own then I guess you could do as I did and grab a bottle of Hollywood Original Shirley Temple Soda Pop… or as the kids call it HOSTSP.

HOSTSP… or as the adults call it Hollywood Original Shirley Temple Soda Pop, is sweetened with pure cane sugar and flavored with [NATURAL FLAVORS].  The coloring is a somewhat neon peachy-pink and the label includes what one might assume to be Shirley Temple’s signature.  Our R & D department did extensive work to see if this actually matched Shirley Temple’s signature… results were negative.  Hopefully that’s the only negative thing about this soda.  Let’s find out, shall we?

I expected cherries jubilee to pop out of the mouth of the bottle in aroma form.  Instead what I got was the very faint scent of grenadine.  I gained little to nothing from my normal smell test so we must move forward.

Bravo.  That’s better than several restaurant made Shirley Temples I’ve had in the past.  The carbonation level is on point, it’s the perfect amount to create the needed sizzle.  It’s so much sizzle it’s almost a burn at the back of my throat, but it doesn’t quite cross that threshold.

Flavor wise the grenadine is the true star of the beverage.  It’s taste intensifies throughout each individual sip, growing and growing until it’s banished to the stomach below.  As my mouth waits for another sip, the flavor of the prior is still easily acknowledged.  It’s a good aftertaste that disappears in half a minutes time.

There is a very slight earthy taste that sits bitterly on my tongue every now and again.  It’s not a deal breaker by any means, but I didn’t want you thinking I’d found the perfect beverage here.  I can easily recommend Hollywood Original Shirley Temple Soda Pop, or as the seniors call it Shirley Soda, to most anyone I’d cross.
